End of Life Wisdom

We attended a Celebration of Life service for a friend of ours’ Dad that passed away beginning of this year. I took a few things away from it that will help me the rest of my life.

When we pass away from this earth there are two main things that will matter. 1) did you know Jesus Christ and receive salvation? 2) what was your impact on others? If you received salvation, you know you’re going to be glorified with Christ and there is immense peace in that. You are saved. The other question isn’t about you, it’s about your family, friends, colleagues, clients, and acquaintances.

I listened to the life story of this man today and while I learned he wasn’t always perfect, nobody is, he left an incredible impact on his family, friends, and church community.

It made me think about what people would say at my funeral/life celebration. Would they say I made them better? Inspired them? Helped them? Loved them? When those I come in contact with think about me when I’m gone, how do they remember me? What legacy is left behind?

I think keeping this in mind will be a driving force for achieving things that really matter. We are here for a God given purpose and that is rooted in impacting those around us and pointing them to Christ. I felt inspired listening to Larry’s family talk about his impact on this world and I think that says a lot about the man he was and I’m thankful for him.
