Fixing Our Eyes on Jesus

Sometimes life moves faster than we can keep up with — plans fall through, unexpected bills hit, relationships get complicated, and the world feels heavy. We pray, we plan, and yet sometimes it still feels like we’re just trying to catch our breath.
It’s in those moments that God reminds us: “Be still, and know that I am God.” (Psalm 46:10)
Those words aren’t a call to give up — they’re an invitation to shift our focus. Because when life gets hectic, our peace doesn’t come from trying to control the storm. It comes from fixing our eyes on the One who walks on water through it.
The Distraction of the Waves
Peter learned this firsthand. When Jesus called him out of the boat, Peter actually walked on water. But the second he looked away from Jesus and noticed the wind and waves, he began to sink.
That’s us, too. We start strong in faith — we trust God’s plan, we step out bold — but then the waves of life distract us. We start asking “what if?” and “why now?” and before long, our eyes aren’t on Jesus anymore; they’re on the chaos.
But Jesus didn’t rebuke Peter for trying — He reached out, grabbed him, and said, “You of little faith, why did you doubt?” Not in anger, but in love. Because the same God who calls us out into deep waters is the same God who won’t let us drown.
Eternity Brings Perspective
When the temporary feels overwhelming, eternity brings clarity.
Life here is messy, unpredictable, and often unfair — but this isn’t the finish line. Every trial we face is shaping something eternal inside us. Paul wrote in 2 Corinthians 4:17–18:
“For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen.”
That verse changes everything. Because when you see life through an eternal lens, you stop measuring peace by your circumstances — and start measuring it by His presence.
The Peace That Anchors Us
Jesus never promised an easy life. He promised His presence in it.
When things feel out of control, that’s exactly when faith becomes real — when we trust even when we can’t trace His hand. That’s where growth happens. That’s where peace lives.
So when the schedule is packed, the news is bad, or the future feels foggy — pause. Take a breath. Pray. And remember: your anchor is not in your plan. It’s in your Savior.
Keep your eyes fixed on Him. The waves may crash, but your faith will hold. Because the One who conquered the grave is still the One who calms the storm.
Reflection
Ask yourself this week:
What’s stealing my focus from Jesus right now?
How can I remind myself of eternity in my everyday moments?
Where might God be inviting me to trust Him deeper — even when I don’t understand?
Final Thought
When life feels chaotic and out of your control, remember: nothing is ever out of His control.
Keep your eyes on Jesus — the Author and Perfecter of your faith — and watch how peace begins to replace panic, and purpose begins to rise out of pain.
Because at the end of the day… it was never about controlling the outcome. It was about trusting the One who already wrote it.
